TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicted that rain will fall in a number of regions today, September 12, 2023. Rain accompanied by lightning is expected to hit Samarinda and Tarakan.
Ambon and Medan are likely to experience moderate rain. Light rain is also possible in Gorontalo, Pontianak, Palangkaraya, Ternate, Manokwari, Mamuju, Kendari, Manado, and Padang.
“Banjarmasin will be shrouded in smoke,” the agency said, adding that fog will also cover Bengkulu, Jambi, and Samarinda.
The air temperature will be between 17 and 34 degrees Celsius with the lowest temperature in Bandung and the highest temperatures in Serang, Semarang, Surabaya, Pontianak, Banjarmasin, Pangkal Pinang, Bandar Lampung, and Makassar.
Additionally, North Kalimantan is on alert for the impact of heavy rain. Strong winds will also hit Bali, West Nusa Tenggara, and East Nusa Tenggara.
BMKG further issued an early warning of high waves in several Indonesian waters on September 12-13, 2023. In northern Indonesia, the wind generally moves blows from the southeast to southwest at speeds of 5 to 25 knots. In southern Indonesia, it blows from east to southeast at a speed of 8 to 30 knots.
The highest wind speeds are observed in the southern part of the Sunda Strait, the Indian Ocean west of Lampung to the south of Banten, the southern waters of Sumba Island, the southern part of the Savu Sea, the southern part of the Makassar Strait, the western waters of Selayar Island, Seram Sea, Buru Island waters, eastern Banda Sea, Tanimbar Island, waters of Kai Island to Aru Island, Arafuru Sea, and Yos Sudarso waters to Merauke.
BMKG explained that this possibly leads to high waves of up to 2.5 - 4 m in the waters of Enggano Island, western Indian Ocean Bengkulu - Lampung, southern Indian Ocean Banten - West Java, waters of Tanimbar Island, waters of Kai Island to Aru Island, western Banda Sea, and Arafuru Sea.
