TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe Alliance of Independent Journalists or AJI Indonesia confirmed that it was losing access to its Instagram account @aji.indonesia. The unknown party reportedly gained access to the account at around 11 a.m. today, September 5.

“AJI has tried to take a number of measures, including communicating with Meta from Instagram to recover the account,” AJI chairperson Sasmito said in a written statement, on Tuesday, September 5.

The unknown hacker uploaded a series of posts promoting gadgets. Sasmito said that as of this afternoon, the account was still controlled by the hacker and continued to upload gadget ads. Apart from that, the hacker also deleted all Stories and replaced them with phone sales.

Sasmito called on the public to ignore the content currently circulating on AJI's Instagram. This is aimed at preventing economic losses or other unwanted things.

AJI Indonesia was still trying to determine whether or not this cyber attack was related to the work of the alliance. “Because there have been repeated attempts of digital attacks on AJI in the past two months, one of which was on AJI's official website,” Sasmito said.
