TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The concept of a green forest city for the development of the new capital city Nusantara (IKN) has attracted investors from Kazakhstan and Finland, stated Ambassador of Indonesia to Kazakhstan Fadjroel Rahman.

"Kazakh businessmen are looking forward to witnessing how the concept will be applied," Ambassador Rachman remarked in Nusantara City's House of Technology in East Kalimantan Province on Saturday, September 2, 2023.

Rachman explained that the concept will be applied in IKN by preserving most of the available development area as forests, while the city's urban zone will only occupy 35 percent of the area.

"Of the total IKN's 259,000 hectares, 65 percent will be preserved as conservation forests, and only 35 percent will be used for the city," he explained.

The ambassador further said that the government will build offices, shopping centers, roads, residences, and various other public infrastructures and facilities in the allotted 35 percent of the development area.

Moreover, the buildings will also be separated by forests and green, open public spaces, he added.

He then noted that Kazakhstan has over 25 years of experience in building and developing Astana, Kazakhstan's new capital city that applies the concept of a smart city and is surrounded by forests.

The Kazakh government relocated the country's capital city from Almaty to Astana in 1997.

"Therefore, earlier, I invited officials from the OIKN (Nusantara Capital City Authority) to come to Kazakhstan and take them on a tour around Astana to see the city firsthand," Ambassador Fadjroel said.

Earlier in July 2023, OIKN Head Bambang Susantono and OIKN's Deputy for Green and Digital Transformation Ali Berawi visited Kazakhstan to sign a memorandum of understanding to establish a sister city partnership with Astana.

"We will exchange knowledge and experience, including those on green and smart city technology," Vice President of Global Markets at Sergek Projects Yelena Tkachenko said in East Kalimantan.

Sergek Projects, a Kazakh company that offers technological and information services, expressed interest in participating in the development of Indonesia's new capital city.

Apart from the Kazakh company, a company from Finland, Smart City Innovation Cluster (SCIC), also offers OIKN cooperation in measuring air and water quality as well as creating innovations that can be used to improve the living quality in IKN.

"In short, we offer solutions to climate change," Chief Executive Officer of SCIC Pertti Kortejarvi noted on the same occasion.
