TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Finger painting is a technique suitable for children to stimulate their creativity. Citing the Active Brains Kids Academy website, finger painting is an easy and fun activity for children that will positively impact their growth.

Below are the five benefits of finger painting for children:

1. Sensory stimulation

Finger painting will stimulate all senses and encourage the development of memory, visualization, and differentiation between physical and abstract objects. Exploring paint and textures will encourage the development of sensory integration which will help during a more complex learning in the concepts of mathematics and language.

2. Expressing emotions

Coloring could be a way for children to express their emotions on paper. By choosing a color that represents their emotions, children will learn to regulate their emotions and express them better.

3. Hand-eye coordination

Finger painting develops children's hand-eye coordination to support their ability to grip pencils, color, paper-cutting, and paper-folding. It will also help children to do activities such as buttoning their own clothes.

4. Intellectual development

Finger painting will train children in understanding colors, exploration, experimentation, and mixing colors, all of which are beneficial to children's intellectual development and critical thinking skills. Finger painting will also develop both sides of the brain.

5. Imagination and creativity

Playing with colors, patterns, and the smooth-slippery texture of the paint will encourage children's creativity and imagination. The ability to focus on the process and not the end result will give children the opportunity to enjoy finger painting without necessarily employing talent in painting.
