TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - City-owned transportation firm PT Transportasi Jakarta, or Transjakarta, held an activity for children with disabilities to paint on the body of the Transjakarta bus.
The company's head of the Corporate Secretary Division, Anang Rizkani Noor, said that the activity was carried out to commemorate the International Day of Persons with Disabilities which is celebrated on the 3rd of December.
"December 3 is the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, [so] we want to involve our disabled friends to color our buses," he said when met at his office on Thursday, December 1, 2022.
Anang explained that the condition of public transportation in Jakarta is often given the impression of danger as evidenced by accidents and sexual harassment that has been occurring in most public transport.
He hopes that the activity of coloring the buses done by children with disabilities can give a different impression of public transportation in Jakarta.
"Hopefully we can show something more subtle, which also elaborates our conscience so that we can be much more calm and safe to travel in the busy city of Jakarta that fills with traffics and loud noises," said Anang.
The bus painted by the disabled children will be operating in corridor 1 of the Blok M-City route. "In a few days, we will have buses that are more comfortable, cozy, and closer to the community."
Anang said that 15 children with disabilities took part in the Transjakarta bus painting, most are from the Outsider Art Jakarta group.
