5 Recommended Thematic Tourist Sites in Jakarta for Weekend Getaway

In fact, the capital city has plenty of tourist sites worth visiting, and the streets tend to be less crowded on days off. 1. MACAN Museum

Located in the AKR Tower Kebun Jeruk in West Jakarta, the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Nusantara or MACAN Museum features a series of exhibitions of contemporary art by renowned artists. At present, the museum has on display the works of Isabel and Alfredo Aquilizan: 'Somewhere, Elsewhere, Nowhere', disini d.l.l., and Ai Weiwei: Baby Formula.

Running from June 2023 to October 8, 2023, the exhibition features large-scale installations that combine found materials, including cardboard boxes, paper, and plastic bags, highlighting themes like urban development, human movement and journeys, exploring what it means to belong, and how identities are formed through the movement of people.

Weekend tickets start at Rp72,000 per person. Museum Macan is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

2. Jakarta Aquarium and Safari

Jakarta Aquarium and Safari at Neo Soho, West Jakarta offers a dazzling array of marine life. Not only is it a feast for the eyes, but it also educates visitors about underwater life. This makes a family visit even more exciting.

The largest indoor aquarium in Indonesia has two floors with 12 zones. On the first floor, there are aquatic animals in a giant aquarium, while on the second floor, there is an exhibition of non-aquatic animals.

Jakarta Aquarium is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. with ticket prices starting from Rp145,000 per person.
