TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The upcoming ASEAN Summit on September 4-7, 2023, prompts the provincial government of Jakarta to implement distance learning for students in the surrounding area of the venue.
"Specifically for September 4-7, the government of Jakarta will implement a distance learning policy for schools in South Jakarta and Central Jakarta," said Acting Governor of Jakarta Heru Budi Hartarto on Wednesday, August 23, 2023.
Heru said that the distance learning policy will be intended to reduce traffic congestion during the summit, considering the government will block several roads during the summit. For this reason, distance learning will not be implemented in other areas in Jakarta.
The main venue of the ASEAN Summit is the Jakarta Convention Center in Senayan, Central Jakarta. The delegates are expected to stay and do activities around the area.
In addition to distance learning, the government will also implement a WFH policy for 75% of civil servants in South Jakarta and Central Jakarta.
Heru Budi also urges the private sector to adapt to the policy since the Metro Jakarta regional police will implement the contraflow traffic system to anticipate the ASEAN Summit.
"There are even roads that we completely block for 2 hours [during the summit] on September 5-7. I urge [private sector] to self-regulate [their work system]," said Heru.
The head of the Transportation Department Syafrin Liputo said the traffic management will follow the time at which the summit delegates head to the venue. "For example, if the delegates depart at 07:00 a.m, the roads will be blocked from 06:30 a.m. to 08:30 a.m.," he said.
