TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi said the free trial for Jakarta-Bandung high-speed train (KCJB) would be held on September 1, 2023.

“Until today, we continue to aim for a commercial launch on October 1 and we'll do the free trial on September 1, 2023,” said the minister in an interview with Reuters as quoted on Saturday, August 12.

Budi Karya explained the transportation ministry will do the comparison with the Jabodebek LRT which was initially planned to launch on August 18 and after the evaluation it is delayed until August 26. The minister said that it was based on President Joko Widodo's direction.

"The president told me not to rush it. He knows that the number one priority is safety...this is the first (high-speed train) in Indonesia and ASEAN, and it has advanced technology so we have to be careful," Budi said.

He added that if the launching of Jabodebek LRT is delayed that the bullet train will also be delayed. “The plan remains on September 1 (for the free trial) and operational on October 1, but it is possible to change," he said. The reason is to ensure all tests are completed.
