TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PT Kereta Api Indonesia China (KCIC) through the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Train (KCJB) contractor begins testing for the Electric Multiple Units (EMU) or the electrically powered single-unit railcars. The previous trial was conducted with a Comprehensive Inspection Train (CIT), which showed the train at an operating speed of 350 kilometers/hour.
“We continue to do our best to prepare the operation of Jakarta-Bandung high-speed train with the stakeholders,” Emir Monti, KCIC Manager of Corporate Communication said in a written statement on Tuesday, July 4, 2023.
The EMUs use the same type as CIT, KCIC400AF, however, both have different functions, interior, and exterior. The CIT includes a meeting room and measurement tools, while the railcars include passenger seats with a capacity of 601 people. Aside from the interior, CIT is painted gray and yellow, while EMU has grey and red colors with triangle scale patterns at the front and door areas. The railcars will be called Red Komodo as it is inspired by the pre-historic Indonesian reptile.
“We design the railcar to be as comfortable as ever, according to the preferred class. We also included a touch of local wisdom by utilizing mega mendung batik patterns in all of the seats,” Emir explained.
Presently, 11 trainsets have arrived in Indonesia, all of which are parked at Depo Tegallular. The trainsets are ready to be inspected and certified by the Ministry of Transportation ahead of the operation.
In detail, a train will include eight railcars with 28 meters in length. Inside, the service will be divided into 3 classes, First Class in railcars 1 and 8, Business Class in railcar 7, while the rest are Premium Economy.
First Class has 18 gray faux leather seats with 2-1 seat arrangement in embroidered mega mendung patterns. Business Class has 28 red faux leather seats with 2-2 seat arrangements with laser cut mega mendung patterns. Meanwhile, Premium Economy will have 55 blue and grey suede seats with 3-2 seat arrangements with printed mega mendung patterns.
Other supporting facilities include sockets, television, folding table, and disabled-accessible toilets. There is also a minibar in the middle of the car for the passenger to buy some snacks or cold drinks.
“Please wait for the official information from KCIC for the people who wants to try this train since we are still discussing the ticketing procedures and schemes,” Emir added.
