Forest Fire Licks Mount Rinjani Trekking Route

4 August 2023 23:37 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Forest fire occurred in the Mount Rinjani National Park in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, causing smoke. "The forest fire occurred in the Aik Berik area, Central Lombok Regency," said the Head of Mount Rinjani National Park Dedy Asriady in Mataram, on Friday, August 4, 2023.

The cause of the fire in the Aik Berik trekking route is currently unknown since the officers from Mount Rinjani National Park and Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) are still heading toward the location to put out the fire.

A forest fire also happened in Ponorogo Regency, East Java. The join officers from BPBD, military forces, and the police are on high alert following the series of fires in several areas in the forest for the past few days. "The officers will continue to coordinate and remain vigilant since the forest fire potential is high considering it's the dry season," said Ponorogo BPBD officer Gemilanf Aditya Mardhana in Ponorogo, on Thursday, August 3, 2023.

The most recent fire happened in a protected forest in Nglurup Village, Sampung District on Wednesday, August 2, 2023. The quite large-scale fire was caused by waste burning by a farmer, exacerbated by the strong winds.

Sampung police officer, Police 1st Sub-Inspector Ahmad Saifudi, said that the forest fire was caused by waste burning by farmers to open agricultural land. "However, the fire was not thoroughly extinguished, causing it to spread," he said.
