TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil stated that he would discuss the management of the Al Zaytun Islamic Boarding School after its leader, Panji Gumilang, is named a suspect in an alleged blasphemy case.
“I’ll have a meeting regarding the management of the Islamic Boarding School (Pesantren),” Ridwan said when met at the State Palace, Thursday, August 3, 2023.
The man who is familiarly called Kang Emil claimed the discussion will be held with Coordinating Minister for Politics, Law, and Security Mahfud Md.
Emil confirmed that there was a threat to public security and order after Panji’s suspect naming. However, he said, this could be anticipated by cooperation between regional leadership communication forums or Forkopimda.
The National Police named Panji Gumilang a suspect for blasphemy, hate speech, and spreading fake news on Tuesday, August 1, 2023. He is charged with Article 14 paragraph 1 of Law No. 1 of 1946 on Criminal Law, Article 45a paragraph 2 in conjunction with Article 28 paragraph 2 of Law No. 19 of 2016 on Electronic Information and Transactions (ITE Law), and Article 156a of the Criminal Code, which carry a maximum punishment of 20 years of imprisonment.
