Egg Prices Remain High; Ikappi Asks Govt's Intervention

1 August 2023 08:18 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe Indonesian Traditional Market Traders Association (Ikappi) reported that the price of chicken eggs remains high and even reaches Rp32,000 per kilogram.

“At the end of July, the price of eggs is still in the range of Rp30,000 to Rp31,000,” Ikappi Secretary-General Reynaldi Sarijowan told Tempo on Monday, July 31, 2023.

He said that the price of the basic commodity has been high for quite a long time. “There has been a price spike for quite a long time since about the past one to two months.”

He also said related ministries or state institutions have not yet settled the price surge. Thus, Ikappi urged the government to intervene to overcome the problem.

On Sunday, July 30, Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan did not deny that chicken eggs remain at a high price. He acknowledged that the egg price jumped from Rp38,000 to Rp40,000 per kilogram, while the government’s reference price is Rp27,000 per kilogram.
