KPK Launches Sting Operation in Jakarta, Bekasi

25 July 2023 21:51 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaIndonesian Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) conducted a sting operation or OTT in Jakarta and Bekasi today, July 25, 2023. Deputy chairman Nurul Gufron confirmed that the raid is related to corruption in the procurement of goods and services.

“It is true that the KPK has carried out sting operations,” Gufron told Tempo on Tuesday, July 25, 2023.

Gufron said investigators launched the activity this afternoon at 14:00 Jakarta time. However, he stopped short of providing details of the case including the arrested people.

Complete information, he added, would be disclosed within 1x24 hours after the arrest. “We are still in the examination process. Please be patient. We will convey the whole information tomorrow,” Gufron said.

It is reported that the raid was performed related to the procurement of goods and services at the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas).

Ali Fikri, the spokesperson for the anti-graft agency, also remained tight-lipped when asked about which Basarnas officials are detained and the details of the case.

Yet he revealed that state administrators and several private parties are among those arrested during the sting operation. “As well as several other parties suspected of committing acts of corruption,” he added.

Ali said the team is still grilling the arrested people at the KPK's building. Reports suggested that at least eight people have been taken to the KPK.

The KPK has time according to the provisions to determine the status of the case. “The case development will be issued tomorrow,” Ali said.
