TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Transportation Ministry’s Directorate General of Railways decided to temporarily halt the public trial run of Light Rail Transit or LRT Jabodebek (Greater Jakarta LRT) after conducting an evaluation meeting. Railways Director General Risal Wasal stated that the trial which commenced on July 12, 2023, generally went smoothly.
“But there are a number of things that must be improved, including the software system,” Risal said in a written statement on Monday, July 17, 2023.
He explained that to optimize the improvement process, the public trial run of the automated train needs to be temporarily suspended starting today, July 17 until July 20.
The Transportation Ministry, he said, apologized for the inconvenience caused by this suspension. “Hopefully, everything will go well so that people can immediately try LRT Jabodebek,” Risal said.
Once the software update is complete, he said that an operational trial run will take place on July 21-23 before the trial for the public is reopened. “It will proceed with the limited operational trial for invitations on July 25 and for the general public on July 19,” he said.
As previously reported, state-owned railway operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) Director Didiek Hartantyo announced that the public trial run of the train connecting Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, and Bekasi would take place in two stages; on July 12-26 and on July 27-August 15, 2023, ahead of the full public operation.
President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo was scheduled to inaugurate LRT Jabodebek on August 18, 2023.
