TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo conducted an impromptu visit or blusukan to Tanjungsari Traditional Market in Sumedang Regency, West Java today, July 11, 2023, and monitored the prices of food commodities.
He said that the prices of some commodities are stable. “We checked everything. What I'm most happy about is chicken meat is at Rp38,000. [The price of] chicken, shallots, chilies, and everything is in a stable position,” the President said in his statement, Tuesday.
The former Jakarta Governor said the stability of food prices at the traditional market was attributable to the current national inflation rate which has declined from 4 percent to 3.5 percent. He is optimistic that this condition would continue to improve and that inflation could be suppressed to 3 percent in September - October 2023.
Apart from checking food prices, the president said that the supply of a number of food commodities in Sumedang Regency is sufficient. “If the price drops to a stable level, it means that there is sufficient supply, and I see that there is no problem [regarding food prices] in Sumedang Regency,” Jokowi said.
