TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia’s badminton men’s single athlete Anthony Ginting has progressed through the pre-quarterfinals in the Indonesia Open 2023 after managing to defeat Denmark’s representative Hans-Kristian Solberg Vittinghus at the Istora Senayan on Wednesday, June 14.
Ginting won the two games that lasted 31 minutes with a final score of 21-8 and 21-10.
The Indonesian played a more relaxed game with a few aggressive attacks during the first game up to the first interval which saw him lead 14-7. Vittingu – who defeated Ginting in the Malaysia Masters 2018 – had to concede to Ginting and ended the first game with a final score of 21-8.
During the second game, Ginting still showed dominance with roughly the same strategy as his first play. The heavy support shown by fans for the local hero indeed helped him deliver clean clears and drives against Vittinghus that helped build a large gap during the second game’s interval, 11-4.
With this victory, Ginting will face India's Priyanshu Rajawat in the last 16 of the 2023 Indonesia Open. Rajawat progressed to the second round after defeating Thai men's singles player, Kunlavut Vitidsarn, who withdrew due to an injury he suffered since the 2023 Singapore Open.
