TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Police's Criminal Investigation Department (Bareskrim) will question five reporters or victims of alleged Coldplay ticket sales fraud today, May 23. The victims' lawyer, Muhamad Zainul Arifin, said that his client would be interviewed by investigators at 10:00 am at the Bareskrim.
Previously, Zainul Arifin counseled 14 people from outside Jabodetabek who were allegedly scammed into buying tickets via social media. Their report was received by the Bareskrim with report number LP/B/106/V/2023/SPKT/BARESKRIM, May 19.
According to Zainul, some of the victims were also scammed to in the sales of Blackpink concert tickets and MotoGP tickets several months ago. He believes this fraud is carried out by several people or a syndicate. In fact, he found that there were several names as account holders in several banks like Mandiri and BCA.
Zainul suspects that the ticket promoter is involved in the scam, because just seconds after the 'ticket war' was opened, it was immediately closed.
"Therefore, we suspect that there may be insiders involved," he said.
What happened next, Zainul said, was the tickets were handed over to agents who then blocked all accessors, so that people had difficulty accessing tickets. This led to people seeking to get tickets from social media, after which they were directed to a WhatsApp Group.
"That's where the transactions happened, with members of the chat group provoking and supporting. The truth is, they are all part of a syndicate," he said.
Zainul said his clients are reporting five names based on the social media conversations and the bank accounts holders' names the victims transferred money to. Zainal hopes Bareskrim can trace the identity of the account number, as they often use fake names or addresses for bank accounts.
Meanwhile, the National Police Headquarters said a number of Regional Police had received and investigated reports of suspected Coldplay concert ticket fraud using an intermediary/middle man modus. Bareskrim's Cyber Crime Directorate had also received a report on a number of victims with a loss of around Rp40 million.
"The police are conducting an in-depth inquiry and investigation into the report," the National Polices PR chief, Brig. Gen. Ahmad Ramadhan, said in a press statement, Monday, May 22.
