PSSI Holds Convoy to Celebrate SEA Games Soccer Glory After 32-year Wait

19 May 2023 07:54 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) is set to hold a parade today, May 19, to celebrate the victory of ending the 32-year wait for the gold medal of the men's SEA Games football. The under-22 national team who had just arrived last night at Soekarno-Hatta Airport was greeted enthusiastically by thousands of supporters.

The parade will take place Friday morning, May 19, 2023, starting at 08:00 Jakarta time. It will kick-start from the Sports and Youth Ministry’s (Kemenpora) HQ in Senayan and end at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium (GBK).

The detailed route is Kemenpora HQ - Jalan Gatot Subroto - Semanggi - Jalan Sudirman - Dukuh Atas Station - HI Roundabout - Jalan Sudirman - VIP Gate of West Gelora Bung Karno Stadium (GBK).

Arya Sinulingga, the PSSI Executive Committee, called on the public to join the parade. “People willing to watch the procession can stand and wait for the presence of the players who will pass the road from GBK, Jalan Sudirman, HI Roundabout, and back to GBK,” Arya said in a written statement, on Thursday.

According to him, the parade is aimed at honoring all the players and team officials because they won the long-awaited gold medal in the SEA Games football match. “Besides, we present an opportunity for the people who have been supporting the U-22 team to see and meet the players in person,” he added.

Arya confirmed that PSSI had asked the police for permission to organize the event and hoped it would run in an orderly manner.

The U-22 national team triumphed in the SEA Games 2023 after beating Thailand 5-2 in a dramatic final match in Cambodia. Apart from the gold medal, two of Indra Sjafri's players, Fajar Fathurrahman and Ramadhan Sananta, were named the top scorers with 5 goals.
