TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The NasDem Party’s central executive board (DPP) chairman Willy Aditya responded to Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan’s suggestion to make Basuki Tjahaja Purnama alias Ahok as Vice presidential candidate for Anies Baswedan.
According to Willy, what Luhut said was just a joke. “Ah, that's a joke,” he said when met at the General Election Commission (KPU) Office on Thursday, May 11, 2023.
He added that since it was a joke, the small coalition team would not consider it. “We have our own [candidates].”
The Change for Unity Coalition (KPP) would not change the list of names of vice presidential candidates for Anies Baswedan, which had been determined by the small coalition team, in the upcoming presidential elections. To date, Willy claimed that there are already five names.
“Unless other parties want to join [the coalition], that can be revised. If there are other parties, we can review [the names] again,” he said.
The NasDem Party general chairman Surya Paloh also said that what Luhut said during a meeting with him some time ago was just a joke. However, Surya did not rule out considering the offer.
“Everything is considered for the best. Otherwise, we are not consistent,” he said. To Surya, supporting Anies Baswedan as a presidential candidate in the 2024 election is the best for the national interest. He argued that national interests are more important than party interests.
