TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Presidential Secretariat’s Deputy for Protocol, Press, and Media Bey Machmudin confirmed that President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo will not visit Lampung Province today, May 3. A day before, Public Works and Housing (PUPR) Minister Basuki Hadimuljono said the state head would pay a visit to Lampung to inspect the road which has recently been under public spotlight due to severe damage.
"It's not canceled, the visit to Lampung will not be held today," Bey said on Wednesday, May 3.
Bey could not yet confirm when the Lampung visit will be carried out and why it is canceled today. "We will inform you later," he added.
Previously, PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono announced that Jokowi would inspect several damaged roads in Lampung Province on Wednesday. Not only national roads, but the head of state will also check the condition of provincial and district roads that are under the authority of the local government.
Basuki did not deny that the inspection was planned in the wake of public protest following the criticism voiced by a resident Bima Yudho Saputro that went viral on social media.
"He will check the correctness of the policies of the regional government," Basuki said at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, on Tuesday, May 2.
Basuki also said there was no order for road repairs. Meanwhile, information was circulating on social media that the Lampung government immediately repaired the damaged road before President Jokowi’s visit.
