Cipinang Prison Head Denies Tio Pakusodewo's Statement on Businesses Behind Bars

3 May 2023 12:15 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaHead of the Cipinang State Detention Center Ali Sukarno denied the statement conveyed by actor Tio Pakusadewo on Kuya TV's Youtube Channel that there were mobile drug dealers and illegal business practices behind bars.

“The statement is misleading. It is disinformation conveyed by the person (Tio) who actually committed two disciplinary violations while [serving his time] in the Cipinang Detention Center,” Ali said in a written statement received by Tempo, Tuesday, May 2.

In a short video that made rounds on social media, Tio claimed that there were illicit businesses of illegal drugs, cell phones, food, drinking water, and mattresses. He also revealed the existence of mobile drug dealers in prison and luxurious detention rooms.

“In fact, there are no indications of luxurious rooms in all blocks, and there is no block only for the corruption convicts (Tipikor) in the Cipinang Class I Detention Center,” Ali clarified.

Regarding the accusations of mattresses being traded, Ali stated that the Cipinang Class I Detention Center gradually distributed mattresses to inmates in each block. The last distribution was carried out on March 16, 2023, with a total of 635 mattresses at the Cipinang Detention Center.
