TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Former vice president Jusuf Kalla on Tuesday insisted that his discussion with Defense Minister and Gerindra Party chairperson Prabowo Subianto did not touch on political issues. The two notable political figures met at the former VP’s house in South Jakarta.
“As we said earlier, we were mostly silaturahmi [keeping ties] as he and I are close. We scheduled the meeting from two months prior and we mostly talked about the future of Indonesia and what types of problems we will likely face,” said Jusuf Kalla following the meeting on May 2.
He then continued to commend the Defense Minister and asserted his ‘low profile’ tendencies. “I feel honored to be visited by Prabowo,” Jusuf said.
Meanwhile, Prabowo said his visit to the former vice president is in fact a meeting unrelated to practical politics. “We are just keeping in tough as fellow countrymen,” said Prabowo Subianto.
Prior to meeting Jusuf Kalla, Prabowo had met with other political figures such as Golkar Party’s board leader Aburizal Bakrie in Central Jakarta, which saw Golkar Chairperson Airlangga Hartarto present too in the meeting. It is still unknown whether the meeting discussed politics ahead of the 2024 elections.
