TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) has launched the Peta Mudik Aman Bencana 2023, or the "Disaster Safe Homecoming Map 2023" to alert road travelers to potential hazards during the 2023 Eid Homecoming period.

"The map provides information on the level of floods, extreme weather, and landslides on the routes traversed by land travelers," stated acting Head of BNPB's Disaster Data, Information, and Communication Center Abdul Muhari on Wednesday.

He said that the map also has a feature to provide information on the frequency of disasters in a region.

The map uses data from inaRISK, while the disaster event data has been sourced from the BNPB's Data and Information System Center.

The map uses a scale of 1:250,000, and the disaster events displayed have been accumulated from each district or city. The BNPB has asked the public to carefully read the information on the map.

"The public can access the map at https://gis.bnpb.go.id/. The information contained in the digital map covers the islands of Sumatra, Java, and Bali," he informed.

BNPB expects the map to help Eid travelers plan their journey, he said.

Earlier, BNPB chief Suharyanto outlined the strategic efforts that have been devised to face and anticipate the Eid al-Fitr 1444 Hijri holiday season.

In addition to the map, BNPB has prepared measures to face potential wet hydrometeorological disasters, such as floods, landslides, and extreme weather.

It has also readied personnel and equipment, such as helicopters, to tackle dry hydrometeorological hazards, such as forest and land fires.

BNPB has prepared a total of 46 helicopters for forest and land fire handling in 6 priority provinces, namely Riau, Jambi, South Sumatra, West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, and South Kalimantan.

Weather modification technology is also being carried out for preventing forest and land fires.

Ahead of the Eid Homecoming period, BNPB is collaborating with the related ministries/agencies, the regional disaster mitigation agencies (BPBDs), the military, and the police for field monitoring of vulnerable points where travelers will potentially crowd at.
