Hundreds of Workers to Stage Protest against Job Creation Law Starting Next Tuesday

27 March 2023 20:20 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaLabor Party President Said Iqbal stated that one of the actions to reject the ratification of Government Regulation in Lieu of Law or Perppu No. 2 of 2022 on Job Creation into law is by holding demonstrations every week. The protest will begin next Tuesday, April 4, 2023.

"We will start staging [rallies] on Tuesday, the first week of April 2023," Said told Tempo on Saturday, March 25, 2023.

The demonstration will be held in front of the House of Representatives building and will be attended by members of the Labor Party and various trade union organizations. "Hundreds of people [will participate in the action] because this is the fasting month [Ramadan]," Said said.

Said, who is also President of the Confederation of Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPI), previously confirmed that the trade union organizations will request a parliamentary review. Revision of the Job Creation Law is possible by means of continuous rallies at the House of Representatives (DPR).

"So the action is no longer toward the palace but the DPR because parliament can review it," Said underlined.

In addition, the Labor Party will also request a judicial review to the Constitutional Court, both formal and material reviews. Said explained that it will likely be difficult in filing for a judicial review because the law number has not been disclosed. However, the trade union organization will make an attempt while waiting for the number.

As widely reported, the DPR passed Perppu No. 2 of 2022 concerning Job Creation into law last week in the 19th plenary session on Tuesday, March 21, 2023.
