TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin has said that the government has anticipated an increase in the prices of basic commodities ahead of the holy month of Ramadan.
"The government has actually anticipated it through efforts to tackle inflation," he informed during a working visit to Surakarta, on Wednesday.
He said that the prices of basic commodities usually increase ahead of Ramadan.
However, the government is taking precautions to prevent an unusual increase in the prices of basic commodities that is not caused by a shortage of supply in any area, he said.
"That's actually what the government is doing. If the increase occurs at the start of Ramadhan, it will last for a while," he said.
“But, if the increase is caused by a shortage of supply, the government has taken steps to anticipate," he added.
The government will continue to monitor the situation to ensure there is no shortage of staple food supplies in certain areas, he said.
