TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo or Jokowi said that 22 football stadiums in Indonesia have been audited and evaluated by the Public Works and Public Housing Ministry. The audit was carried out after the tragic Kanjuruhan incident last year.
"As I instructed to the Public Works Minister, we have audited 22 football stadiums," the president said when visiting the 1B District of the new capital city Nusantara in North Penajam Paser Regency, on Friday, February 24.
Jokowi said the 22 stadiums were high-risk stadiums for the holding of League One, League Two and the U-20 World Cup in 2023. These stadiums each had the capacity to seat around 20,000 spectators.
From the audit results, Jokowi said, five were found to be in very poor condition. Four of them need rehabilitation and one needs to be fully dismantled.
Jokowi also said that 13 stadiums were moderately damaged and needed to be renovated, while four others with minor damage needed minor renovations.
Meanwhile, the Kanjuruhan Stadium is currently still in the re-planning stage. "This is just in the redesign process for total rehabilitation," the president said.
Jokowi gave the order to audit football stadiums in the country when he visited the Kanjuruhan Stadium Malang on October 5 last year. "I asked Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Basuki Hadimuljono to totally audit all stadiums in Indonesia after the Kanjuruhan Tragedy," Jokowi said at the time.
