TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Secretary’s assistant for the economy and finance Sri Harryati disclosed a number of strategies designed to tackle capital issues during the meeting on the city’s working plan or RKPD with the Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD) Commission B overseeing economy on Wednesday, February 15, 2023.
Sri explained that the main issues discussed in the meeting include flooding, economic recession, poverty, stunting, and democratic values.
President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo, she recalled, instructed the capital city administration to alleviate poverty to zero percent by 2024. “We received data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) that the extreme poverty rate in Jakarta is still 0.89 percent of the total population. The President wants it zero percent by 2024.”
Sri outlined that suppressing the extreme poverty rate requires a two-way strategy. "The strategy is by lowering the burden of spending through social assistance and of course, related to the economy which is on how to increase people's income," she said.
As for reducing the stunting rate, Sri said handling and intervention strategies are necessary to prevent malnutrition in children. “Although [the stunting rate in] Jakarta is the second lowest [among Indonesian provinces] at 14.9 percent, President wants it to be under 14% and even 5% by 2024.”
“And then the strengthening of democratic values, the strategy is through improving quality of public services, democratic values, national values, and diversity values, as well as preventing violence against women and children,” Sri concluded strategies to contain issues in Jakarta.
