TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Ferdy Sambo's lawyers did not say much to reporters following the death sentence given to their client. Sambo's defense team leader Arman Hanis only said that they respect the verdict handed down by the panel of judges.
However, Arman did not deny that the legal team was disappointed with the judge's verdict, arguing that it did not pay attention to the facts at trial.
"In our opinion, it was not based on facts, the trial is only based on assumptions. But whatever the ruling is, we still respect it," Arman at the South Jakarta District Court, Monday, February 13.
Arman did not answer when asked what legal steps the defense counsel would take next.
The South Jakarta District Court gave the death sentence to former head of the National Police's Professional and Security Division (Propam) Ferdy Sambo, ruling him guilty of committing the premeditated murder of his aide, Nofriansyah Yosua Hutabarat a.k.a. Brigadier J.
Ferdy Sambo and a number of his aides killed Brigadier J on July 8, 2022. There are five defendants in the case including Sambo and his wife Putri Candrawathi. The other defendants are Kuat Ma'ruf, the assistant of Sambo and Putri's household; as well as Ricky Rizal and Richard Eliezer Pudihang, Sambo's aides in the police force. Richard was the one who pulled the trigger, killing Joshua.
The premeditated murder of Brigadier J began when Putri Candrwathi said that Yosua had attempted to rape her. Ferdy Sambo then devised a plan to kill Yosua, seeking assistance from his subordinates and aides. The murder took place at Sambo's official residence at the Police Complex, Duren Tiga, Jakarta.
