TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The South Jakarta District Court gave the death sentence to the former head of the National Police's Professional and Security Division (Propam) Ferdy Sambo. The panel of judges ruled Sambo guilty of committing the premeditated murder of his aide, Nofriansyah Yosua Hutabarat a.k.a. Brigadier J.
"The court declares that the defendant Ferdi Sambo has been legally and convincingly proven guilty of committing the crime of premeditated murder and deliberately causing the electronics system to not work properly," the presiding judge Wahyu Iman Santoso read out the sentence in today's verdict hearing at the District Court South Jakarta, February 13.
The court decided that the defendant had thought over how to commit murder and that the defendant was able to choose the tool of the crime.
The court also ruled that there was an element of intent on the part of the accused, as he deliberately mobilized other people to help execute the crime. Ferdy is said to have asked his aide Ricky Rizal to kill Yosua before giving the order to Richard Eliezer.
Another thing that the judges took into account was Ferdy Sambo's psychology. He was proven to be mentally healthy and did not suffer from any psychiatric disorder, thus proving the element of intent.
