Ferdy Sambo Sentenced to Death in Police Murder Case

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Ferdy Sambo, former head of the National Police's Professional and Security Division or Propam, was sentenced to death by a panel of judges on Monday, February 13, 2023, in a verdict hearing at the Jakarta District Court. The Court found him guilty for the premeditated murder of Nofriansyah Yosua Hutabarat a.k.a Brigadier J.
"We sentence the defendant Ferdy Sambo with the death penalty," Chairman of the Panel of Judges Wahyu Iman Santoso read the verdict on Monday, February 13, 2023.
The public prosecutor demanded Sambo be sentenced to life imprisonment because he was believed to have violated Article 340 of the Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 55 (1) concerning premeditated murder. In the case of obstructing the murder investigation, Sambo was also considered to have violated Article 49 in conjunction with Article 33 of Law No. 19 of 2016 concerning Amendments to Law No. 11 of 2008 on Electronic Information and Transactions in conjunction with Article 55(1) of the Criminal Code.
The two-star general was charged by the prosecutor for masterminding the murder of his own aide at his official residence at the Duren Tiga Police Complex, South Jakarta, on July 8, 2022.
Based on the statement of Richard Eliezer, the executor who is a justice collaborator of the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK), Ferdy Sambo formulated the murder plan on the third floor of his house on Jalan Saguling 3, South Jakarta, several hours before the execution. The house is located less than one kilometer from the murder scene.
