Indonesia's Electricity Consumption Up 6.15% in 2022

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry said that Indonesia's electricity consumption grew 6.15 percent in 2022, based on consolidated data from state power company PLN. Dadan Kusdiana, the ministry's acting director general for electrical power, said that the growth is proof that Indonesia's economy grew well in the past year.
Speaking at an event to disseminate Energy Minister's Regulation no.16/2022 in Jakarta on Tuesday, January 24, Dadan also said the ministry believes the consumption of power outside PLN's supply also increased.
In December last year, PLN said that electricity sales in 2022 rose 6.61 percent. This was driven by the use of electricity which increased significantly due to the recovery of economic activities after the Covid-19 pandemic.
"This is a positive signal for Indonesia's economic growth," PLN president director Darmawan Prasodjo said as Antara reported on December 24 last year.
As of November 2022, PLN recorded an electricity sales volume of 250.4 TWh. The biggest consumer of electricity was the household segment with 106.23 TWh (42.43 percent), followed by the industrial segment with 81.17 TWh (32.42 percent), the business segment with 43.99 TWh (17.57 percent), the social segment with 9.18 TWh (3.67 percent), and the public segment of 7. 82 TWh (3.13 percent).
