TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Presidential Chief of Staff Moeldoko on Thursday welcomed the visit of a number of football club fans, legal representatives, and families of 135 victims who perished in the Kanjuruhan stadium disaster on October 2022. They arrived at the State Palace urging for the legal procedures to be done fairly and transparently.
"I assure you that the Presidential Staff Office will hold a meeting with the Police and the Attorney General's Office regarding the handling of the Kanjuruhan case. I myself will lead the meeting later," said Moeldoko on January 5.
Moeldoko emphasized that the government is committed to a fair and pro-victim law enforcement process.
"KSP will try to find ways to support the struggle of the victims and their families in getting justice," said Moeldoko.
President Jokowi was absent from the meeting as he is currently on a working visit to Riau.
The attorney team for the football fan club Aremania, Djoko Tritjahjana, said they decided to meet Moeldoko because the efforts of victims and their families to seek justice have stalled. Meanwhile, Deputy Chairman of the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK) Antonius PS Wibowo hopes that this legal process will ensure restitution or compensation is given to victims.
"Even though death cannot be replaced by rupiah, at least this restitution can fulfill a sense of justice for the victim and his family," he said.
National Police Chief Gen. Listyo Sigit Prabowo, so far, has named six suspects for the Kanjuruhan Tragedy. Three of the six suspects are members of the National Police who were involved in safekeeping the match.
