TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno in a statement on Tuesday highlighted the hidden potential honed by Indonesia’s coffee culture especially considering the myriad of regions that produce respectable-grade coffees and the unique experiences that could be the main attraction for tourists.
“The experiences in understanding further about coffee should be the main selling point,” said the Minister on January 3.
He visions visitors being taken on a ‘coffee tour’ and will be guided to know deeper the knowledge from farmers surrounding coffee in the field, the types of coffees that exist, and how coffees are processed prior to being served in shops.
One of many coffee-growing regions that have implemented this is Kintamani Bali, which has worked in parallel with the government under the TEPANAS program to conduct coffee tours.
In this coffee tour, tourism business actors will work directly with local farmers which are hoped to bring a positive impact on farmers, especially in increasing productivity.
"I hope ASITA can participate in encouraging restaurants as well as cafes and hotels to empower local farmers," said Sandiaga.
The coffee tour concept similar to the one in Kintamani will be developed for various coffee-producing regions in the country, especially in five super-priority tourism destinations.
