TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil, said that with the recent revocation of the PPKM policy, the public must be wise in maintaining awareness against Covid-19 without government intervention.

As an example, Ridwan said that there are instructions that are no longer mandatory, such as wearing masks. "Adjust accordingly. If someone is sick, he or she needs to wear [a mask]," Ridwan said on Monday, January 2, 2023.

Ridwan expressed his optimism that here will be no surge in Covid-19 cases even with the revocation of the PPKM. He also urged the people not to be concerned.

"Don't worry too much. The key is, we have been vaccinated. The vaccine is the only line of defense. Before we were worried [Covid-19] will surge, but it later subsides," Ridwan said.

Head of the West Java Health Agency Nina Susana Dewi said that the revocation of the PPKM means there is no more restrictions. "It does not mean free from everything. No, it's not like that," Nina said on Monday, January 2, 2023.

Nina added that Covid-19 is not completely gone. "Covid still exists. In West Java, in one day there is still 50 to 70 [new cases], which means it's not endemic. Therefore , we in West Java continue to call on the public indoors or in a crowd, to continue wearing masks," Nina explained.

Nina added that the West Java regional government remains on standby "Health facilities must be on standby, including [Covid-19] task force. The task force remain on standby because it is yet to be disbanded," Nina said.

Also, Nina stated that the West Java regional government continues to push to achieve booster vaccination goals. "Vaccinations continue to be conducted, because for booster vaccination, we are only at 50 percent," Nina said.
