TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo or Jokowi has lifted the public mobility restrictions or PPKM starting December 30, 2022. But the public is advised to maintain health protocols, such as wearing a mask, though it is no longer obligatory.
"The revocation of PPKM doesn’t mean that the Covid-19 pandemic has ended as the declaration that the pandemic is over would be stated by WHO," as written in the Home Affairs Minister’s Instruction number 53/2022.
The instruction issued to all regional leaders revokes all old regulations about PPKM and the current rules it contained are just recommendations. For example, people are advised to keep wearing a mask in crowds, in closed rooms, and on public transportation. Those who show symptoms and are in close contact with confirmed positive patients must exercise self-isolation.
The use of hand sanitizers and scanning the PeduliLindungi app to enter public facilities are no longer compulsory but still recommended.
Regional heads are also asked to encourage the public to take a test when they show any Covid-19 symptoms, and to get complete vaccination until the booster. They are also asked to continue to carry out assessments of Covid-19 indicators to view the rate of transmission and response capacity.
