TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Joko Jokowi Widodo and Vietnamese President Nguyen Xuan Phuc inked three Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at today's meeting, December 22, at the Bogor Presidential Palace, West Java.
“[The MoUs are] about cooperation in energy and mineral resources, cooperation in combating terrorism, and cooperation in eradicating the illegal narcotics trade,” said Indonesia’s President at the Bogor Presidential Palace, West Java, Thursday.
The last point contained in the MoU, he explained, was about cooperation in fisheries and eradicating illegal fishing. He hoped this could be implemented soon through a more specific MoU on maritime and fisheries cooperation.
From the economic sector, Jokowi asked Nguyen to provide investment protection for Indonesian companies in Vietnam.
“Indonesia's investment value in Vietnam has reached more than US$600 million in 101 projects. I hope the resolution of several issues encountered by Indonesian investors will encourage new investment in the future,” he said.
Nguyen landed in Indonesia on Wednesday, December 21, 2022, and is scheduled to return to Vietnam on Friday, December 23, 2022. Before the meeting at the Bogor Palace, Nguyen visited the Heroes' Cemetery in Kalibata, South Jakarta.
During the meeting, like other state guests, Jokowi invited Nguyen to plant trees together in the palace's backyard. The two leaders then held a bilateral meeting.
