Jakarta Councilor Hopes KPK Won't Disclose City Officials' Wealth to Public

19 December 2022 15:40 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaSecretary of Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD) Commission C overseeing Finance Yusuf, hoped that the wealth of the city administration’s officials will not be disclosed to the public in a bid to prevent uproar in the society.

"We hope that the wealth [belonging to city officials] will not be revealed too much because it may raise questions in the public," said Yusuf to Tempo on Monday, December 19, 2022.

Yusuf made the statement in response to Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) deputy chairman Alexander Marwata's comment that there are officials who own 20 to 25 plots of land. Alex also questioned the fairness of officials possessing those numerous assets.

Yusuf, however, refused to comment further about the officials' wealth as he had no idea of the origin of their assets. The PKB politician argued that it could be normal that their huge assets come from the inheritance of their own parents or spouse.

The most important thing, Yusuf asserted, is that the Jakarta Inspectorate intervenes to check the wealth of officials during their term. "This means, [the inspectorate] checks assets that the officials actually earn while they are serving," Yusuf argued.

Tempo has collected data on the assets of 39 leaders of the Jakarta Regional Work Unit (SKPD) published on the KPK’s official wealth report page elhkpn.kpk.go.id. The data is taken from the 2021 state officials' wealth disclosure or LHKPN.

The 39 subordinates of Acting Governor Heru Budi Hartono consist of 10 agency heads, 21 service heads, one public order agency (Satpol PP) head, one inspectorate, as well as five mayors and one regent.

The result shows that the richest city official is the Satpol PP head who has assets worth Rp24.59 billion, while the poorest one is the Environmental Agency head Asep Kuswanto, who pockets only Rp683.05 million.
