TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Transportation Ministry delivered electric buses used for the mobility of the Bali G20 summit participants in November 2022 to Surabaya, East Java, the head of the city’s Transportation Agency Tundjung Iswandaru has reported.
The government reportedly will send 34 units of the battery-fuelled buses in several stages starting December 2022. The buses are expected to support transportation services in Surabaya.
"Thirty-four units are planned to be sent to Surabaya but gradually. Perhaps, 25 buses for this year because the operation period is only 1-2 weeks. After that, there will be a new contract in the following year," said Tundjung as quoted from Antara.
Tundjung explained that the operation of the electric public transport in the city was carried out through cooperation between the Directorate General of Land Transportation of the Transportation Ministry and the state-owned public transportation operator Damri.
The electric buses will serve two routes, namely Purabaya Terminal - Kenjeran Park and Jalan Benowo - Jalan Tunjungan.
Tundjung also ensured that the operation of the electric buses in Surabaya received the full support of the local government. The technical operations, he added, would be coordinated with the operators in stages.
