Health Ministry to Issue BPJS Kesehatan Regulations for Rich People

25 November 2022 23:05 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaIndonesia’s Health Ministry will soon issue a regulation that will combine health insurance costs between the government-organized health insurance BPJS Kesehatan and the private insurance. Through this regulation, BPJS Kesehatan customers willing to get more premium treatment can take advantage of their private insurance.

"We will issue a Health Minister's Regulation [Permenkes] that coordinates benefits of private insurance and BPJS Kesehatan. I think regulation is needed. Hopefully, it can be issued this month,” said Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin when met at The Westin, Kuningan, South Jakarta, Friday, November 25, 2022.

The payment integration between BPJS Kesehatan and private insurance has been discussed since early this year. The Health Ministry has coordinated with private insurance to open up room for flexibility for premium holders. This service is often known as "BPJS Kesehatan untuk orang kaya" or BPJS for the rich.

Budi Gunadi said that the payment integration system will be applied next year, hoping that this facility can lower the possibility of multiple insurance claims and increase BPJS Kesehatan coverage.

In addition, it was expected to boost efficiency, both for premium holders, hospitals, and insurance entities. The new regulation, he added, will stipulate the payment portion between BPJS Kesehatan and private insurance.

In a meeting with Commission IX of the House of Representatives (DPR) last Wednesday, November 23, 2022, Health Minister Budi Gunadi hoped that rich people or economically well-off society would not burden the state through health financing by BPJS Kesehatan.
