TEMPO.CO, Badung - Indonesia’s President Joko Widodo or Jokowi handed over the G20 Presidency relay to India as the Bali summit ended today, November 16, 2022. India is set to host the next year’s summit.
“We have arrived at the end of the G20 Summit. Once again I thank God Almighty and all. And also goodbye. I hereby declare that the G20 Summit in Bali Indonesia is closed,” Jokowi said at The Apurva Kempinsky, Bali, followed by the five knocks of the mallet.
He thus symbolically handed over the brown mallet to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Indonesia has been assigned the G20 Presidency from 1 December 2021 to 30 November 2022.
As quoted from India Today, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had launched the logo, theme, and website of the 2023 G20 Summit. Modi stated that the opportunity to host the G20 will be an honor and a historical record for India.
Modi explained that the creation of the G20 2023 logo involved thousands of suggestions and creative ideas from the public, ANI News reported. Apart from that, the next year’s summit logo depicts the life of the Indian people.
“The symbol of the earth means respect for the mother earth who has provided a living. Meanwhile, Lotus depicts India's cultural heritage which can be interpreted as hope,” said Modi.
The big theme for India’s G20 Presidency is "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam" or "One Earth-One Family-One Future". The theme is the country’s response to the global to rebuild a post-pandemic world.
