TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bakrie & Brothers CEO Anindya Bakrie asked SpaceX CEO Elon Musk about the potential for Indonesia to become a rocket base. Anindya said that Indonesia was interested in the rocket factory located in Boca Chica, United States.
"Impressive facility by the way right? First, I've never been to starbase but I overheard some engineers saying that maybe the best place to launch these rockets is from the equator. It's true right?" he said at the B20 Summit Indonesia 2022 event on Monday, November 14.
"The best would like in the mountain areas at the equator," Elon answered as he joined the dialogue online, wearing a green batik.
Anindiya said that Indonesia has 5,000 kilometers of the equator and that the new capital city, Nusantara, will be located right on it. "Should we be talking more about launching pads of SpaceX being in Indonesia?" Anindya asked.
The Rocketman answered that in the long term there would be plenty of rocket platforms across the world that would allow people to travel "from one part of the world to the next at over 20 times the speed of sound.
That, he said, would really open up the world if people could travel anywhere in less than an hour, "could be in 45 minutes."
Anindya also asked about Elon's planned mission to send people to Mars. Elon said that interplanetary travel is something that will happen eventually.
"It will allow the future generations to get experience new adventures," he said.
