TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Experience Indonesia event in London on November 6, 2022, received a positive response, with more than 2,000 visitors attending despite heavy rain. Indonesian Ambassador to the UK Desra Percaya, said that the enthusiasm of the visitors was seen when they were willing to stand in long queues while it rained.

Experience Indonesia is an event formed by the Indonesian Embassy in the UK. This event was opened by the Indonesia Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno, to promote Indonesia and contribute to national economic recovery, especially through the ecotourism and Micro, Small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) sectors.

Experience Indonesia also held a traditional market with an Indonesian feature in the centre of London. The location of Vinegar Yard is not far from The Shard which is the tallest building in England, as well as the Borough Market which is a popular gathering centre for young people and tourists in England.

The culinary area is a favourite of visitors, especially Indonesian living in England, it is a treat to their homesickness. A variety of authentic culinary preparations from six MSME vendors, and Indonesian restaurant entrepreneurs in the UK, are served.

Visitors can also shop at mini market outlets and buy handmade sustainable products filled by Alleira Batik, Kalianda Tapis Lampung and leather bag products from Garut Wiesnwitz.

Best of all, the lucky visitors could win a grand prize of a plane ticket for London to Bali, presented by the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, Amsterdam to Bali, presented by Garuda Indonesia, as well as vouchers for staying at Bali and Labuan Bajo resorts.

As a result, Ambassador Desra also witnessed the signing of a cooperation agreement and the establishment of Toba Restaurant, an Indonesian restaurant built by MSMEs in the UK which will officially operate from February 2023 in the Piccadilly premium area in central London.

"Experience Indonesia is a platform for strengthening the promotion of Indonesia in the UK, which is expected to generate real economic benefits, especially for MSMEs. The increasing number of Indonesian restaurants in London will also support Indonesia Spice Up the World (ISUTW) program to introduce Indonesian cuisine to the world," Desra said.

Experience Indonesia was held by the Indonesian Embassy in London in collaboration with Bank Mandiri, Bank BNI, and Bank Indonesia with support from various partners in Indonesia and the UK.
