TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia’s Football Association (PSSI) held a meeting with representatives of the International Football Federation (FIFA), the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), and the Indonesian Government in Jakarta on Thursday, October 13, 2022.
The four agreed to establish a national football transformation task force following the Kanjuruhan stadium disaster that killed 132 people and injured hundreds of people on October 1, 2022.
Members of the task force include PSSI, FIFA, AFC, the Indonesian Police, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Ministry of Public Works and Housing (PUPR), the Ministry of Home Affairs, and the Ministry of Health.
“On behalf of the federation, I once again offer an apology for the tragedy that happened and PSSI will take full responsibility. One of the forms is that today we have agreed to form a football transformation task force,” said PSSI chair Mochamad Iriawan.
Iriawan revealed that a number of representatives of the ministry and the soccer body discussed the framework and work plan for the improvement of national football. Each institution has its own role and function. The police, he explained, will synchronize the security standards set by FIFA and the police’s standard operating procedures.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports will oversee the sports affairs, while the Ministry of Public Works will play a role in checking the feasibility of the stadium.
“As ordered by President Jokowi, [the ministry] will audit all stadiums. I also received information that the PUPR Minister is now at the Kanjuruhan Stadium to check the standardization of the stadium,” Iriawan added.
The task force has already arranged the plan to resume the national football competition. If all timelines run smoothly, the 2022-2023 League 1 championship is scheduled to return on November 25 or 26, 2022. For the upcoming agenda, PSSI will have another meeting with FIFA and AFC in Kuala Lumpur on October 17, 2022.
