TEMPO.CO, Mataram - State-owned Indonesia Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) is determined to develop Mandalika as a sports tourism destination, which is a new tourism trend that has a promising market with a growth potential of nearly Rp18.79 trillion until 2024.
ITDC President Director Ari Respati assessed that sports tourism is sustainable as it develops according to people’s lifestyles and can attract repeat visitors. “ITDC captures a great opportunity in sports tourism and is thus ready to participate in developing sports tourism in Indonesia through organizing various sporting events in managed tourism destinations,” said Ari on Wednesday, October 5, 2022.
Located in Lombok of West Nusa Tenggara Province, Mandalika already offers an attractive landscape from savannah hills, marvelous beaches, to unique underwater and is supported by complete facilities for sporting events, such as running, cycling, surfing, beach volleyball, trekking, paragliding, and others.
According to Ari, Mandalika sports tourism is supported by the existence of the Pertamina Mandalika Circuit, the world's prestigious MotoGP, and World Superbike motorcycle racing championships. “We will optimize this motorcycle racing event as an attention puller to attract tourists to visit the Mandalika,” he added.
Therefore, ahead of the WSBK which will take place on November 11-13, 2022, ITDC in tandem with the Mandalika Grand Prix Association (MGPA) as part of the ITDC Group would focus on finalizing the preparation of the event.
