Garuda's Aircraft Procurement; KPK Alleges Ex-House Member Receive Rp100bn Bribe

4 October 2022 12:25 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has opened a new investigation into the graft case of the Airbus aircraft procurement for Garuda Indonesia in 2010-2015. In this case, the KPK suspects that House of Representatives (DPR) members of the 2009-2014 period and other parties received bribes totaling Rp100 billion.

“The alleged bribe is worth around Rp100 billion, which is allegedly received by DPR members of 2009-2014 and other parties, including corporations,” said KPK official Ali Fikri in a written statement, Tuesday, October 4, 2022.

Ali said this is a follow-up investigation of the corruption case at Garuda which was handled in cooperation with the UK and France authorities. “KPK appreciates foreign authorities who are willing to help law enforcement in Indonesia,” he added.

Ali said his side will announce the suspect and the crime when the investigation completes. The announcement will be made in line with the arrests. The KPK is still gathering evidence to make this case clear and summoning witnesses.

“We need public support to keep monitoring the investigation process,” he emphasized.

According to Ali, this corruption case is quite complex because the transactions were made across countries. It is also suspected of involving not only individuals but also corporations, the presence of important actors, and substantial state losses.

“We ensure that we will convey every development to the public in a transparent manner,” Ali said.
