TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bank Indonesia said that Indonesia's trade balance in August 2022 was a surplus of US$5.76 billion. The figure is higher than the surplus in July, which stood at US$4.22 billion.
The central bank's head of the communications department Erwin Haryono said the trade balance surplus has been on an uptrend since May 2022.
"Indonesia's trade balance in January-August 2022 as a whole recorded a surplus of US$34.92 billion," Erwin said in a written statement on Thursday, September 15.
August's trade balance surplus, Erwin said, came from the increased surplus of non-oil and gas trade and the declined deficit in the oil and gas trade.
In August, the non-oil and gas trade balance reached a surplus of US$7.74 billion, an increase from July's US$7.31 billion. This was supported by the sector's export performance, which rose to US$26.19 billion.
The deficit in oil-gas trade balance fell from US$3.09 billion in July 2022 to US$1.98 billion in August 2022, in line with increased exports and decreased imports of oil and gas," he said.
