TEMPO.CO, JakartaAmid issues of the Indonesian population data breach, issues about a suspected leak of sensitive data belonging to the State Intelligence Agency or BIN also emerged. The data reportedly includes member identities, reports, and business strategies.

In response to this, BIN spokesperson Wawan Hari Purwanto asserted that the issue was not true or a hoax. He stated that the government’s internal network data is safe from hacker attacks.

“That’s a hoax,” said Wawan to Bisnis.com on Thursday, September 8, 2022.

He explained that all data of the agency used pseudonyms. “All BIN data are safe, encrypted, and use fictitious names. So, BIN data are not leaked.”

Issues about the data breach went rampant on social media. It was reported that hackers could access more than 180 documents of BIN covering reports, business strategies, a list of agent names, and others. The data also includes a detailed list of the intelligence agents’ names, ranks, units, and addresses.

Previously reported, the National Cyber and Encryption Agency (BSSN) claimed it is conducting an in-depth investigation over the alleged breach of 105 million Indonesian population data which is believed to be obtained from the General Elections Commission (KPU).
