TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Depok Metro Police finally captured LN (33), the man who set his wife and child on fire in late August. LN was found hiding in Pasar Rebo, East Jakarta.

Depok Police chief, Sr. Comr. Imran Edwin Siregar, said that LN fled and hid at a colleague's place after committing the crime in Duren Seribu, Bojongsari, Depok, almost a week ago.

"After about five days on the run, the perpetrator has been arrested in Pasar Rebo, at his friend's house," Imran told reporters on Tuesday, September 6.

According to Imran, LN claimed that he committed the crime because he was blinded by rage.

"The couple often quarreled about their household affairs, but this time the perpetrator was under the influence of alcohol," Imran said.

For his crime, LN is charged with Article 44 of Law no.23/2004 on Elimination of Domestic Violence. He is facing up to 10 years in prison.

LN set his own wife, EL (27), on fire on Sunday, August 28, allegedly because he was upset for his wife's inability to take care of their house and children.

Because of the incident, EL suffered burns all over her body and face, up to 45-percent. Not only EL, the couple's 10-year-old child also caught the fire and had to be treated at Depok City General Hospital.
