TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan inaugurated a growing productive flat in East Jakarta known as Kampung Susun or elevated village today, August 25, 2022.
The flat is built for residents of Kampung Bukit Duri in South Jakarta who were evicted during the era of former governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama alias Ahok.
“Praise to God, we have today successfully completed the effort to restore the dignity and rights of the citizens together,” said Anies at Kampung Susun, Thursday, August 25, 2022.
The city government provided 75 residential units for 75 families who were victims of the eviction and are still striving to defend their right to housing in the East Jakarta Administrative Court.
The construction of the elevated village which spans 4,000 square meters started on October 7, 2021, and was completed within 10 months.
According to Anies Baswedan, the flat was constructed thanks to the cooperation of various parties, from the government, residents of the former Kampung Bukit Duri, community activists, to experts. “This is a form of mutual cooperation,” he said. “It is impossible to do it alone.”
Former Jakarta governor Ahok evicted residents living on the banks of the river, including Kampung Bukit Duri, in September 2016. The eviction was launched to carry out the Ciliwung River normalization program.
