Jokowi to Visit China in July's End to Extend GMF-BRI Deal

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Pandjaitan stated that President Joko Widodo or Jokowi planned a visit to China to extend the Global Maritime Fulcrum-Belt and Road Initiative (GMF-BRI) cooperation.
“It’s planned at the end of July 2022,” Luhut said as quoted from his verified Instagram @luhut.pandjaitan on Monday, July 11, 2022.
Accompanied by Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi, Luhut made the statement before the Indonesian and Chinese delegations during the second meeting of the High-Level Dialogue and Working Mechanism (HDCM) in Bali.
Meanwhile, the Chinese delegation led by Foreign Minister Wang Yi who also attended the G20 Foreign Ministers Meeting said he would welcome the Indonesian President’s visit.
Luhut further expressed appreciation to the General Administration of Customs China (GACC) for facilitating the domestic fishing industry that was hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic. He believed that the assistance could further strengthen the trade partnership between Indonesia and China every year.
President Jokowi also planned to visit Japan at the end of July, according to the Foreign Affairs Ministry in a written statement. The planned visit was discussed in a bilateral meeting between Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi and her Japanese counterpart Hayashi Yoshimasa, on the sidelines of the G20 Foreign Ministers Meeting in Bali on Friday, July 8.
